INFORMATION FOR APPRENTICES

An apprenticeship is for you if you want to combine learning with real-world experience. You’ll learn from your work colleagues as well as in the classroom. There are no fees or up-front costs – in fact, you’ll earn a salary for the entirety of your course.

N

Combine your studies with a job in IT or digital marketing.

N

You'll be an employee of your company, earning a wage while you learn.

What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship allows you to get a job while also learning more about the role. They combine real-world experience with classroom-based learning.

Our training is provided in week-long blocks where you’ll be released from work to attend our centre of digital excellence in Sunderland. You’ll meet and be taught by our experienced trainers in your subject area.

Classroom sessions run every 6-10 weeks. Between these sessions you’ll receive visits from your trainer and be expected to undertake some self-directed learning.

Your employer will be a company in the region who wants to fill a vacancy. This could be in any industry, however you will have full control over where you start your employment.

Apprenticeships typically last a minimum of 12 months. Some programmes do take longer to complete, which will be clear depending on the vacancy you apply for.

The minimum wage is currently £3.90 per hour. Some of our employers do offer higher hourly rates, or pay increases based on progression throughout your apprenticeship. The hourly rate will be listed on the vacancy.

Once your apprenticeship is over it’ll be down to you and the employer what happens next. You might be given the opportunity to become a full-time employer, or you could be offered another apprenticeship at a higher level. Hopefully it’s the start of a long and successful career.

Wherever you choose to work you’ll finish your apprenticeship with an industry-recognised qualification. You will also have developed the skills and experience you need to become a valued employee.
